| I'm hoping someone closer to the Blue Jay scene can enlighten me here. What's up with Halladay? Is his velocity down? what can reasonable be expected from his second half?

Fall Classic (7/13/2007) I'm hoping someone closer to the Blue Jay scene can enlighten me here. What's up with Halladay? Is his velocity down? what can reasonable be expected from his second half?
I'm not sure if his velocity is down, but in his last start, Halladay threw 71 pitches while giving up all of his 5 ER in the first 2 innings. He bounced back after that, but could only get into the 6th after reaching 112 pitches. In his previous start, Halladay walked just one, but 5 of the 9 hits he gave up went for extra bases. Despite a 10-4 record, Halladay has a very mediocre 4.66 ERA and has recorded just 5 quality starts in 11 tries since the start of May. He's likely to get on track and perform more consistently in the second half, but I just don't think he'll be any kind of dominant pitcher. His strikeout rate is even a little higher than last year (2006, 5.4 per 9 IP; 2007, 6.5) and his walk rate is also fairly stable (2006, 1.4; 2007, 1.8). However, the problem seems to be that batters are hitting for a higher and higher average against him - 2005, .278; 2006, .315, and 2007, .371. Perhaps some of this is bad luck, but it's also possible he just isn't fooling as many batters. I'd expect him to get wins (around 7-8) over the rest of the season, but I can't expect strong ratios. Perhaps an ERA of 4.5 and a WHIP of 1.25-1.30 is really all you can expect.
