14 team Weekly H2H league based on G,A,+/-,PIM,PPP,SOG,W,GAA,Saves

Currently 4th in league and have gone 11-1 in the last 4 weeks H2H - 9pts out of 1st (2pt Win, 1pt tie).  We have ONE waiver pick available.

Current roster (must start 4LW/C/RW 6D, 2G)

C - B.Richards,Datsyuk,D.Roy, Zubrus, Cajanek

LW - Ovechkin,Elias,Ponikarovsky, Roberts, Chris Neil(drafted as LW)

RW - Guerin,Horton,Langenbrunner,Dvorak,Ouellet, Radulov

D - Redden,Jovocop,Rafalski,Ohlund, Phillips,Sutton, Skoula

G - Kipprusoff,Fernandez,Mason

On the waiver wire:

LW - Gelinas,Saprykin,Kilger,Moss

C - Fritsche,Pavelski,Perrault,Pohl,Plekanac

RW- Sillinger,Kozlov,D.Brown,P.Sharp

D - Bieksa,Vlasic,Z.Michalek

G - Holmqvist

Looking at my roster, I'm thinking of dropping Skoula for Bieksa right now...my RW is weak, but not much on the wire is a substantial upgrade.  Wondering if I should wait until I need to add someone due to injury or use my pick on Bieksa.  Also was considering not using the FA pick until the end of the season (since pickings are a little slim) and picking someone up as a keeper, ie. Toews, Johnson if they sign after their college seasons end.

UPDATE: Clowe and Malone were taken as I wrote the post.  It's a keeper league, so I was thinking of retaining Radulov.

you don't need Bieksa but he also shouldn't be on your wire.  i'd make the Bieksa/Skoula move.

i also find it interesting that Perreault is on the wire.  which Perreault is it?  Perreault or Perrault?  is it possible to get someone else to make a waiver claim and then trade for that guy since you won't have a waiver left to use?

just a thought.

That's kind of what I was thinking.  I don't *need* Bieksa right now, but he is compelling as a waiver pick.  I can't see anyone else being a better pickup right now.

Both of the Perrault/Perreault guys are available on the wire.  I meant Yanic, I think the knock on him is a perceived lack of SOG and PIM and no one believes in PHO either.

If you mean, can I receive someone in a sign n' trade deal where I get another team to pick up a waiver and then trade him to me(in effect getting 2 waiver picks), this is doable.

We have a cap in place and I only have enough cap for one waiver pick up.  Who else would you target?  Going over cap results in a reduction of auction dollars next year...which isn't too bad since waivers cost $5 and cap is $200.  Our trade deadline is Feb 27, but waivers can be used anytime before the last game of the regular season - so effective deadline for sign n' trades is also Feb 27

I was also thinking to hold out and mebbe pick up a late signing NCAA player (our waiver pickup must be eligible to play at least 1 NHL game in the current season ie. can't pickup an overseas or junior player now)...but I guess there are no guarantees anyone will sign before season's end.  I would only do this to lock in a promising rookie before next year's auction.

i only like Yanic on your wire (outside of Bieksa) and yes that's exactly what i was suggesting.  the old sign and trade is used very seldom but i actually used it twice in my regular Yahoo league this year.  i just convinced someone that i'd trade them so and so if they'd make a waiver pick and then trade that guy to me.  both times i had low priority and i went to the #1 priority person.  i traded Hainsey to land Preissing in Dec and i traded Clymer to land Getzlaf in Jan.  i was more than happy with those moves, giddy in fact, but a few in the league weren't all that pleased with me.

anyway, you don't seem to be too high on Yanic so you might just prefer to move on.

Thanks for the advice Ian and kudos to you for that move to get Getzlaf!

I've been tracking Yanic since he got signed (got him in a roto-pool), but I'm not sure if he'd crack my top 4 C.  Bieksa could slip into my top 6 D and he would definitely be an upgrade on skoula and more of an upgrade on Sutton than Perreault would be on Cajanek.

I used a sign n' trade to land both Horcoff and Fernandez onto my team last year.  But I don't think I can do it this year with the remaining waiver picks being in direct competition with me.

I am hesitant to use my waiver pick before our stretch run - thinking of saving it in case I need to make an emergency pickup at LW if Roberts doesn't come back by the weekend or if Fernandez is out for a long time, Holmqvist might be a better option than Mason to get saves at least.  In our H2H schedule, we play 3 other teams every week, starting Feb 19th, we play 4 teams/wk and then the last 3 weeks of the regular season, the top 5 teams go into H2H mode against each other for all the marbles.

I'm conflicted between pulling the trigger and waiting since Bieksa is probably one of the best remaining waiver picks left.  Been tracking KB for a while too, but I was just waiting for the shoe to drop on his performance seeing as we don't have any waiver picks to waste - ie. Rene Bourque taken back in October.
