First, a little background - I found TMR 3 years ago near the end of my first fantasy play (Yahoo baseball points league), the following season I used the order of the TMR expert league draft as my autodraft pre-ranking on the theory that the order of the experts draft distilled their expert knowledge as a free market determines quality. Long story short, it worked. I had a superb autodraft, and the team won the league by a record 2,500 points. I had the title locked-up by July, and needless to say was not invited back by those stiffs.

This year I decided to play "foobawl", solely out base curiosity, as I had not watched an entire NFL game in years, and did not follow it at all, and had grown to dislike it. (My dislikes of the "NFL product" are too many, but I really dislike watching it as a waste of time. I discovered after timing a game that there was only 15 minutes of actual action play in an hour of broadcast time.)

Nonetheless, I joined two ESPN free public 10 team leagues - just to get into the play of it. So, I tried my TMR experts draft order gambit in one league's pre-rank, and did not pre-rank the second. Well, even to my unschooled eye, the pre-ranked league came out with useless pukes Korean Robinson, Dom Davis, Droughns, Lendale White, Phil Dawson. (But, I did get 3 TE's Gates, Heap and Heath and a surppose a sometime "silk purse" in Pennington). Well, with the sage counsel of TMR and other RotoPass counsel, puke pre-rank evolved into a first place (9-4) playoff team, whichlost in the semi by 10 points.

My second team finished 8-4-1,and is in the finals, but getting thumped by 34 points (Ugh!) going into the last week. Thumped , because I didn't take sound board advice to start MoJo over Chester, and Dayne. Today, I'm "Woulda-Coulda-Shoulda" kicking myself. (Well, it's not over yet.)

In any event, I give all the credit to TMR and the other sites of RotoPass for taking a uninformed rookie to the playoffs in two leagues. It was great fun playing, but I'm considereing "retiring on top" - fantasy foobawl's too much of a crap shoot. (Yeah, they may have been "pussy" public autodraft leagues, but winning is still winning.)

Thanks, and Happy New Year to all.

Great story, Atavist. Love hearing that kind of thing. Hopefully you'll reconsider and play next year as well.

This from "The Huddle column "Commentary from the Edge" today sorta sums it:

"And I would imagine I am not alone. Somewhere out there in fantasy land there are championships that were won or lost on the thigh scraping legs of the legendary Ron Dayne. I don't mean to be melodramatic, but if you lost a championship game at the hands of Ron Dayne I really don't blame you if you never play the game again. Or even show your face in public again. That is a kick in the nuts that you just might not ever recover from."

And it is a beauty if you are the one doing the kicking!

Sure, I had LJ at RB1, but with Thomas Jones scheduled to watch from the bench, I had to fill in with someone, and Dayne fit the bill.

Lucky for me he had a career high 153 and 2, but don't I get any credit for reading the TMR boards and finding the perfect FA fill-in?

Screw "The Huddle". Did they throw me a pity party when McNabb went down? No, I just plugged in Drew Brees and kept on keepin' on.

Now where did I put that Championship trophy?
