I've been playing fantasy sports since 1988, but this year is my first shot at hockey. I never followed the NHL, so I thought this would at least start getting me interested.

So far I've had mixed results - My team is currently tied for the 6th (and last) playoff spot in a 12-team H2H Yahoo league. Cats are: G, AST, +/-, PIM, PPP, GWG, W, GAA, Sv% and ShO. We start 2 C, 2 RW, 2 LW, 4 D and 2 Goalies, with 4 players on the bench (1 being a goalie).

The 1st place team has offered me a trade: I get Peter Forsberg and Robert Esche in exchange for Tomas Vokoun.

I'm already pretty strong at Center, with Langkow, Gomez and Lang, but my Defensemen are pretty lame. I'm inclined to ask him for a strong defenseman like Phaneuf instead of Forsberg, but I don't want to make a counter offer that will hurt me.

Is his offer fair? How about my counter offer? Here are the two rosters:

Me
======================
C - D. Langkow, S. Gomez, R. Lang
LW - M. Naslund, D. Sedin, S. Kozlov
RW - M. Hossa, A. Carter
D - T. Poti, D. Hamhuis, M. Norstrom, B. Berard, P. Mara
G - T. Vokoun, A. Auld, M. Garon

Him
======================
C - V. Lecavalier, P. Elias, P. Forsberg, J. Spezza
LW - A. Ovechkin, M. Gaborik, S. Gagne
RW - A. Hemsky, D. Heatley
D - R. Blake, D. Phaneuf, B. Campbell, A. Markov
G - R. Esche, D. Aebischer, M. Kiprusoff

Thanks!

i'd pass on that offer. Vokoun will carry the lion's share of the weight for your goalies and im still among the believers that Niitymaki will be the starter in Philly and not Esche. you wouldn't have the goalies you need if you have to rely on Auld, Esche, and Garon.
additionally, factor in the point that Forsberg has a bum groin and probably won't be playing in the Olympics. if he rests it then he can still come back and be the great center that he is for the season. in the meantime Gomez and Lang are two very nice centers to run out there daily.
you know what? the other guy doesnt even need Vokoun. he has Kiprusoff. and his offense looks pretty stacked too. it looks to me that he's trying to pass off his question marks on to you for a proven commodity.
i don't see a deal here at all but if you think you want to go after something then look to deal for Markov or Phaneuf off him.
i don't want to be rude or anything but his team definitely looks like a 1st place team and yours looks like a 6th place team. be very careful dealing with this guy.

Ian

Thanks for the advice. I always hesitate to trade with a league leader. And you're not being rude - your assessment of our teams is quite accurate. I played him a few weeks ago, had all my players active each day they had games, and still lost 9 - 1.

ya, you definitely dont have the ability to deal Vokoun right now and improve your team... you need him to anchor your goaltending duties.
