Hard to believe Walter Payton is getting no respect on these boards..

Also:

Joe Montana
Dan Marino (can't stand him, but he was awesome)
Larry Bird
Magic Johnson
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Wilt Chamberlain (didn't like him, but he holds many records)
Julius Erving
Clyde Drexler
Dominique Wilkins (never won a title)
Mike Tyson (ouch)

and of course.. Kurt Rambis!

No way. Indurain was unbeatable in the time trial.

My nomination is for #4, Bobby Orr. Him, over any hockey player that has ever lived. EVER.

Even Gretzky?

Even Gretzky. If not for a career cut short by knee injury, this wouldn't even be a debate. Since we're voting for the greatest athlete, rather than the greatest career, Orr would be my choice.

If you cloned 5 Gretzkys and 5 Orrs and made them play against one another (we'll let somebody else play goal), the Orr team would win. You know why? Team Orr could also play defense.
