hi!
This is my first year playing fantasy Hockey and I had my first and only draft last week, I'll only have this one team for this year. I'm not really new too Hockey, I've followed it for many years now, but that doesn't seem to count for much now, with the rules changes and new young talent in the league. When I look at my roster I'm not "wowed" much, and sifting through the free agent list there appears to be players more worthy of a roster spot then some of the players I have like Ruutu, Zherdev, Arnason, P.Bergeron (Bos), plus J.Carter and Ovechin have yet to hit the Free Agent list in Yahoo leagues[} ]
So I guess what I'm asking is (to keep it simple), who on my roster should I drop. And maybe throw some Sleeper names at me to look for that are better than what I currently have on my roster I guess[8)], Here's my roster[B)]
G:M. Brodeur
G:K. Lehtonen
G:C. Joseph
C:J. Spezza
C . Demitra
LW:S. Samsonov
LW:A. Frolov
RW . Heatley
RW:A. Kovalev
D:C. Pronger
D:M. Zidlicky
D:R. Hamrlik
D:O. Tverdovsky
Bench . Vyborny, M. Straka, R. Whitney
The league counts G A +/- PIM PPP SOG
W GAA SV% SHO
and it's a 12 team league.
Feedback and advice would be great, I'd love to be able to improve my team before other league managers take notice of the plentiful free agent list[:X]

Welcome on board ... We'll be here to help...
First off, I'd part ways with Vyborny and grab Patrice Bergeron... Botson is going to be a powerhouse, and this kid will be one of the keys.... Should outperform Vyborny by a massive margin... and don't get me started on their +/-.
He was the NHL's youngest player when he had his Rookie season... an 18-freaking year old kid with 39-points?!?!?!
Anyway ... last year he improved his game in the AHL (again as the youngest player) .... And he should be super solid.
The only concern with him is the way he throws his 178-pound frame around the ice... The crazy bastard squared of with Ryan VandenBussche the other night!....
I like Bergeron to just about match Vyborny's point production ... but win hands down in PIMS and +/-.
Obviously Ovechkin would be a major boon, but I am guessing your waiver pirority isn't pretty based on the fact you have Marty. Go after Jeff Carter... He'll be right up their with Crosby and Ovechkin for Rookie scoring ... Oh yes... Dropping Whitney.... Screw that Jazz....
Give Straka a week or two to see how he does with Jagr.... but if he is sub-par look at Zherdev, Ruutu and Arnason in that order (IMO)...
Overall, if you are looking at trades.... Try to find a solid LW-1 ... That's where you are weakest...
For sleepers... Check if Barret Jackman is there over Tverdovsky ... You could use another big PIM guy... That or, Derian Hatcher... Hatcher won't score too many points but his PIM and +/- should be killer.... Yes both are health concerns, so read the latest on them...
Hope that helps...

You think!? Wow, that is alot of good advise, any wonder why he's a columnist? Anyhoo, I looked up Jeff Carter in the Yahoo fantasy hockey list and he's not there so stack him with Ovechkin on the 'Must watch for whenever Yahoo feels like activating him' list.

The answer is...42.

hi!
Wow, thanks for all that helpful advice! You are right, I had 12th waiver priorty , but it has gone down to 9th at the moment, I'll be sure to put in claims for those two players.
I looked to see what LW's were available, here's a few names:
M. Sturm, S. Kozlov, J. Hecht, M. Erat, J. Blake, E. Cole, R. Malone (Pit - LW), M. Bell, G. Sanderson
And some D:
D. Kalinin, K. JonssonNA (NYI - D), M. Malik, M. Rathje, and B.Jackman is indeed available[:0] Any other names jump out at you?
Hatcher wasn't drafted but was recently picked up, oh well.
You have been a big help for sure, I thank you[ ]
Mike.

Malone... now...
He should be worth a truckload... I'm suprised to see him there still...
Just like Carter, he is in the right place at the right time...
His linemates are named Mario Lemiuex and Ziggy Palffy.... WOW!
I'd lose Whitney for him now... and then when the waiver claims come up, worry about dropping someone at that point...
