I'm in a 12-team, NL-Only Ultra keeper league. I am currently in 3rd place, and 8 points out of first place and 2.5 points out of second place. Here is my team:
C C. Ruiz $3 (drafted 2007)
C Chris Snyder $5 (drafted 2007)
1B D. Lee $34 (OPT)
2B R. Weeks $15 (3 year contract)
3B G. Atkins $15 (3 year contract)
SS S. Drew $2 (drafted 2006)
MI J. Kent $18 (drafted 2007)
CI M. Jacobs $10 (2 year contract)
OF L. Gonzalez $9 (drafted 2007)
OF C. Hart $2 (drafted 2006)
OF D. Roberts $17 (drafted 2006)
OF L. Scott $10 (drafted 2006)
OF J. Willingham $10 (two year contract)
U A. LaRoche $32 (drafted 2007)
U D. Young $14 (drafted 2007)
P J. Peavy $27 (OPT)
P B. Webb $21 (drafted 2006)
P R. Hill $10 (drafted 2006)
P S. Olsen $10 (2 year contract)
P W. Williams $2 (drafted 2007)
P K. Correia $1 (drafted 2007)
P P. Feliciano $1 (drafted 2007)
P B. Penny $14 (OPT)
P B. Lidge $17 (OPT)
P R. Demspter $6 (OPT)
My 10-player reserve roster only has three player of note: Juston Upton $2 (drafted 2006), Mike Pelfrey $10 (drafted 2006) and B. Fuentes $3 (OPT). The other guys are in the minors or injured.
I have been offered J. Pierre $34 (drafted 2006) and B. Wagner $37 (drafted 2006) for J. Upton $2 (drafted 2006) and M. Jacobs $10 (2 year contract).
I can gain one point in steals. I can gain two points in saves with this trade. I don't think the trade equals the potential Upton has; however, I could potentially slip to third place. I am considering a counter offer of Pierre, Wagner and O. Hernandez $4 (drafted 2006) for Upton, Jacobs and Pelfrey, but I don't think the other owner will consider it. I could gain a few points in wins, if Hernandez wins a few more games.
I think the team in first place is out of reach with 73 points. He is solid in most categories, and I think he may even gain a point or two. I basically would be fighting for second place. Should I trade Upton or keep him for next year? I can sign him to a $12 (2 years) or $17 (3 years) contract for next season only if he makes the team.
Should I finish the season with the team I have and go into 2008 with a strong offense or should I trade Upton and try to solidify my chances for second and maybe sneak into first with dumb luck? I am leaning towards keeping my team as is, but I could gain points with the above trades.
Thanks in advance for the advice.

It sounds like you have little chance of winning of the league, so why mortgage your future for a run at second place? I would not deal one of you only decent keepers for a run at being the runner up.

| I was planning on not making a move; however, it is tough when the dude at the top is gloating. Thanks for the advice, C-Dub.
